Product Description

Brief Introduction
Tween (or polysorbate) is a non-ionic surfactant with a foul odor, warm and slightly bitter, and is a partial fatty acid ester of a series of polyoxyethylene dehydrated sorbitol. Widely used as an emulsifier and solubilizer for oil substances. Polysorbate is commonly considered a non-toxic and non irritating material. Due to the presence of a large hydrophilic group, the polyoxyethylene group, in the molecular structure of polysorbide, it has strong hydrophilicity.

Application
Often used as an oil in water (O/W) emulsifier to evenly disperse other substances in solution, it is mainly used in pesticides, food, and cosmetics. When used in combination with other emulsifiers such as sodium lauryl sulfate or spandex, it can increase the stability of the emulsion. Tween can be used to emulsify essential oils and dissolve them in aqueous liquids, fully exerting its effect. Relatively speaking, Tween 20 is milder, while Tween 80 has stronger emulsifying properties.


Production Method
Polysorbate is synthesized from sorbitol through a three-step reaction. Firstly, sorbitol dehydrates to form dehydrated sorbitol; Dehydrated sorbitose reacts with fatty acids such as oleic acid and stearic acid to form hexose esters; Finally, under the action of a catalyst, it reacts with ethylen oxide to form polysorbide.
